Huckleberry!

Ok I bought this bottle of huckleberry now what?

Well, you’re in luck. This one bottle of huckleberry syrup that you have in your hand can make almost 17 drinks, or if you like the flavor a little light it could make 32ish drinks! You might be thinking WTF? This will last me forever. Now it might, however you might like it so much that it won’t last that long at all. But don’t worry if it does happen to last you forever keep it in the fridge and you’ll be good to go for many months. This syrup has a water activity level of .79 and a ph in the 3’s. what’s that mean? it means it’s thick and acidic, and It means it’ll last for almost forever.

Ok cocktail time! Literally on the back of the bottle we have a recipe for our 3rd most popular cocktail in the bar:

Huckleberry lemon drop:

1.5 oz. vodka

.5 oz. triple sec

1 oz. lemon juice

1 oz. House Made Huckleberry syrup.

Combine ingredients into shaker, shake, strain into stemmed glass with sugar rim.

So, to get the best results from this cocktail we would recommend to use Cointreau instead of a cheap triple sec. now the regular triple sec will work just fine, but Cointreau is full proof and helps give some more body to this drink.

What is you don’t have triple or Cointreau?

It’s not the end of the world, you can still make this drink with just the vodka, lemon and syrup. We would recommend beefing up the vodka to 2oz. if you’re not using any orange liqueur.

Lemon juice:

It’s important to note that you can use the lemon juice from the little yellow lemon containers, however the flavor from a real lemon is 1,000 times better, and you’ll need about one whole lemon per drink.

Now they do also sell pasteurized lemon juice at the supermarket, it’ll slightly different from the little yellow lemon, because pasteurized means they heated lemon juice to kill any bacteria that might be living in the juice, so it’s real whole juice, whereas the little yellow lemon is juice made from concentrate.

So in the hierarchy of lemon juice, we would recommend fresh is always best, but if you can’t do that, then do pasteurized, and if you’re desperate do the little yellow lemon bottle. But if you do end up using the little yellow lemon you will most likely have to tweak the ratios of the drink. And I would recommend shaking it longer to dilute the drink more.

Ok sorry back to other huckleberry drinks! Realistically any cocktail that calls for simple syrup in it, can be swapped

out for huckleberry and then boom, huckleberry drink! I’ll list out a few for you so you can see what our recipes look like.

Huckleberry Mojito

1.5 oz. silver rum

.5 oz. lime juice

.5 oz. House Made Huckleberry syrup

5-6 oz. soda water

mint

Combine ingredients into shaker (except soda water), shake, strain into tall glass, and top with soda water. Garnish with mint and lime wedge.

Huckleberry Margarita

2 oz. Blanco tequila

.5 oz. triple sec

1 oz. lime juice

.5 oz. House Made Huckleberry syrup

Combine ingredients into shaker, shake, strain into short glass with salt rim full of ice, garnish with lime wedge.

Huckleberry gin and tonic

1.5 oz. gin

.5 oz. House Made Tonic syrup

.5 oz. House Made Huckleberry syrup

5 - 6 oz. soda water

Combine gin, and both syrups into a rocks glass, mix well with a spoon, add soda water on top and mix well, add ice and garnish with a lime wedge.

Huckleberry whiskey sour

2 oz. bourbon

1 oz. House Made Huckleberry syrup

.75 oz. lime juice

1 egg white

Combine ingredients into shaker, dry shake, add ice to tins, shake, strain into short glass full of ice.

It Is something to note that we like the whiskey sour recipe with huckleberry better with lime juice instead of lemon. Something about that malic acid plays nice with the tartness of the huckleberries.

But there you have it folks, 5 different drinks to use that huckleberry syrup in!
